Phil Gerard, a fundraiser with a background in social services and education, founded Gerard Consulting in 2012 while serving as Director of Development at Simon Fraser University. Recognizing the limited talent pool in the nonprofit sector and the need for greater awareness, he created TalentMatch, a cost-effective recruitment service that collaborates with clients' HR teams. This proactive approach makes recruitment affordable for even small organizations.

Phil is dedicated to building long-term relationships and has developed a diverse network of over 4,000 candidates across various backgrounds, ages, races, religions, neurodiversities, disabilities, national origins, gender identities, and sexual orientations. He proudly serves a wide range of clients in the arts, education, social justice, environment, community services, and healthcare sectors.

Our Role and Limitations as a Recruitment Firm

About Gerard Search’s Role in Recruitment

Gerard Search is a recruitment firm that connects nonprofit organizations with qualified candidates already eligible to work in Canada. We are retained by employers and never charge fees to candidates.


Our Role
We identify and present candidates for specific roles, but hiring decisions are made solely by the employer. If you’re selected for a role, it is based on the employer’s independent evaluation.


Work Eligibility
Candidates must confirm their legal eligibility to work in Canada. Gerard Search is not licensed to recruit foreign workers and does not facilitate work permits or immigration processes.


Not an Employment Agency
We are a recruitment partner, not an employment agency. We do not hire candidates, manage payroll, or handle compliance—those responsibilities lie with the employer.


Candidate & Employer Responsibilities
